Students will be able to divide the beat into two, three, and four equal parts at eighty beats per minute.

preparation
- Have students practice their ability to divide 2, 3, and 4 with the subdivision workout video. 
- Introduce the concept of improvising with subdivision syllables with the improv video. 
- Play student selected music and identify which subdivision different instruments are playing. 
Process
- Perform the subdivision test along with the subdivision assessment video. 
- Say the word “down” on all of the downbeats, and the following syllables for each subdivision level: 
 2: (↓+) 3: (↓ pl et) 4: (↓ e + a)
- Follow this pattern for the assessment:

Remediation
- Remove eighth note triplet subdivision. 
- Only do the first line of the assessment video.

- Allow students to test in partners. 
Enrichment
- Add periods of metronomic silence by using a metronome with a mute function. 
- Slow down the assignment with a metronome.
